Federal Election 2021 Meet the Candidates: Conservative Tunde Obasan

Meet the Candidates The 2021 Federal Election is The Gateway’s interview series with running candidates in Edmonton Strathcona. This is the fourth of five articles.

As the federal election on September 20 approaches, Gateway sat down and interviewed candidates from the main contending parties in the Edmonton Strathcona electoral district.

Tunde Obasan, the Conservative Party candidate in Edmonton Strathcona, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in finance, and experience in accounting and finance. He is also an associate pastor in his local church.

Gateway contacted Obasan’s team three times for a virtual interview, but Obasan’s campaign team declined our requests.

Initially, Gateway contacted Obasan’s team on September 5 by email, requesting a fifteen-minute virtual interview with the candidate. The candidate’s team responded by saying that the candidate did not have time for a fifteen-minute virtual interview but was able to send written responses to the questions. Other candidates in the Edmonton Strathcona constituency had agreed to a virtual interview and had not received the question in advance. In order for the interview format to be consistent between candidates from all political parties, Gateway decreases.

Gateway contacted Obasan’s campaign team again on September 8 and 16 to expand the shorter virtual interview offers, but was turned down both times.
