We speak with a former Chairman of the Police Services Board, Professor Ramesh Deosaran, about the current state of the PSC, the contentious issue of gun licenses and the continuing problem of violence and of gang crime in the country. Professor Deosaran was also a former independent senator and former director of the Center for Criminology and Psychological Research at UWI. He was also Chairman of a Cabinet-appointed committee to investigate conditions at Reman Yard Prison, he was Chairman of the Cabinet-appointed Police Force Audit Committee.

Scotiabank is the latest major company to announce a transformation exercise and says the move will affect 149 workers. Quoted in a newspaper article, the bank said the decision was not taken lightly and is committed to ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and with respect as they transition into employment. Scotiabank added that this has become necessary due to its digital transformation. Unions criticized the decision, calling it unfair.

The San Fernando branch at Cipero and Rushworth streets will close on March 18 and operations will be integrated into the High Street location. on Saturday, T&T recorded a record 1,081 new covid cases, the previous highest record was reported on January 20, with 1,063 new cases. Yesterday, 449 new infections were reported and fourteen additional deaths. Today is the last day of January and so far more than 520 deaths have been recorded.
