Irene Willins has been named vice president of finance at California grocer Stater Bros. Markets.
Stater Bros., based in San Bernardino, Calif., said Thursday that Willins, formerly senior controller of accounting and finance, will oversee various aspects of the company’s day-to-day financial management, including payroll, accounts payable, budgeting and forecasting, and in-store financial services.

Stater Bros. noted that Willins’ “team-oriented philosophy and personalized demeanor” contributed to his success as a team leader for several key initiatives, including the selection and implementation of a new platform. software form of human capital management (HCM), enterprise enterprise resource planning project (ERP) and the deployment of new point-of-sale (POS) and sales audit processing systems.
“Irene’s promotion recognizes the important role she has played over the years in helping manage the financial operations of our company,” Stater Bros. Willins joined Stater Bros. Markets in 2000 as a financial analyst in the accounting and finance department. She was then promoted to various other positions, including Assistant Controller, Controller of Retail Operations, and then Senior Controller of Accounting and Finance, her most recent position. She also sits on the board of directors of Stater Bros. Charities.
Willins’ appointment marks Stater Bros.’ second executive promotion in the past two months. In late June, the grocer announced the appointment of Bertha Luna as senior vice president of retail operations. She was previously vice president of retail.
Overall, Stater Bros. Markets operates more than 170 supermarkets in Southern California.
